I first started using color overlays in 1992 to make the text more interesting while in college. I never knew about SSS and it causes a burst of compassion for what some students go through!

Helen Irlen has dedicated her life to helping those with reading problems. This book and the Irlen Institute are the culmination of that work. The history of her discoveries, who can be helped and how are clearly explained and illustrated. This should be read by everyone in education and parents who have witnessed a child struggling to read and write.

My two grandchildren, 18 and 14, were diagnosed as dyslexic. After reading the book and using the overlays with each of them, they found the colors that worked best for them. My granddaughter exclaimed, "Oh, the words stopped moving!" I wanted to cry. Their mother will soon be making appointments to have a certified Screener test them for lenses. This will be life changing for both of them.

I have a child that is behind with reading. He tries so hard. Last night we figured out what color works for him and it is amazing the difference. It is not the entire problem but I think it is a big puzzle piece. I also realized that I have a color too. Didn't know why I never liked to read textbooks. Now I do.
